DodgeHole...
This time of year always adds excitement and challenges to drivers of all ages as we engage in a game I call "DodgeHole." It is a problem we can't pin on anyone, blame on previous generations, or smite the good Lord for; simply put: Holes Happen:-) I was pleased to hear the city manager mention these concrete and asphalt cavities at the past council meeting; our city crew knows they are back again to signify the hope of spring and are all over it! Think of them as being like the spring Robins who sing and build nests, flowers coming to life, lawns turning green...Pot Holes, love them or likely not, are a sign of seasons turning. While DodgeHole is a fun game of skill, patience, and practice, please drive carefully and responsibly. Happy Spring.

Mr. Hansel,
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the pot holes, I understand that the city crew can not fix them until the weather cooperates. Would it not be in the best interest of the city to perhaps limit the street employees to minimal hours/layoffs until weather permits repairs? It seems a shame to pay these full time hours when nothing can be done at this time. As you know, our city doubles the employees 401K contributions for city employees (for LIFE!), this seems kind of extreme. In the employee's defense it is a perk the city gives to attract good employees. This was understandable years ago when times were good, but now during hard times you could have 5 good people applying for those same jobs with a single matching of contributions (rather than a double)as a perk.
Also, Sidney has worked hard for water upgrades, lighting upgrades, sewer upgrades, and we as tax payers are paying for these upgrades, on the premis that our water/elec/sewer services would be more current, more efficient.....this should eventually lead to lower city bills, but alas our city bills seem to be antigravital, always going up, never coming down. A couple of years ago, I let my backyard die to conserve water, and I was punished with some kind of usage fee (I am probably using the wrong words) at any rate, a city bill should go down when you conserve, not up. I would like to know your thoughts. Thank you for your time.
Thank you for making me chuckle. I needed a good laugh, but the City has been out fixing the pot holes, my car isn't so scared to drive on certain streets. The condition of some of the well traveled streets is an issue that needs to be addressed rather then a walking path to no where and it seems that their are certain citizens focused on such petty stuff with the council. I am wishing you good luck in your bid for the council seat it appears you have the right ideas and the direction needed for the City of Sidney. I guess the potholes could be worse, my family and friends in Lincoln say they are horrible and DodgeHole should be a new game for the Wii System.
